Organ Restoration Concert

After years of fundraising, on Sunday 23rd October at 2pm we celebrated the long-awaited restoration of our beautiful Bishop & Starr pipe organ with a choir and organ concert. As an introduction, an overview of the history of the instrument was presented by Sandie O’Neil. The workings of the organ and how the various sounds are produced was demonstrated by local organist Lyndon Ford who then played some pieces to sample those sounds. The Cantrelle Singers sang songs with piano accompaniment. Resident organist Julian Kent played some well-known wedding music and concluded the concert with a composition of his own, in between which the Southsea Community Choir sang acapella songs. The concert was very well attended and appreciated and was followed by refreshments in the church hall. A very pleasant musical afternoon was had by all.
